A golf holiday should be more than just a trip with clubs in the boot.
The best ones are the kind you’re still talking about a year later — where the rounds were memorable, the scenery was jaw-dropping, and the days off the course were just as good as the ones on it. Mallorca delivers all of that, and then some. But like any great trip, the magic is in the planning. Here’s how to put together a golf holiday in Mallorca that genuinely has it all.
Starting with the right time of year, Mallorca's
golf season runs almost year-round, but the sweet spot for a summer golf holiday is either early morning tee times in July and August, or the shoulder months of May, June, September, and October when temperatures are warm but not overwhelming. The east coast, where most of the island’s finest golf is found, enjoys a slightly cooler breeze off the sea which makes mid-summer rounds far more comfortable than you might expect.
Book your tee times early. Mallorca's
best courses fill up fast, especially in peak season. If you’re visiting in summer, book your rounds at least two to three weeks in advance. Early morning slots — first light through to around 10am — are the most sought after and for good reason. The air is fresh, the light is golden, and the courses are at their absolute best.
Build your days around golf
A common mistake on golf holidays is over-scheduling. Two rounds a day sounds great in theory — until you’re on the 14th hole in 30-degree heat wondering why you didn’t book a beach afternoon instead. One round per day, well timed, leaves the rest of the day free to explore. And in east Mallorca, that’s very easy to fill.
Mix in the academy experience
If you want to get something extra out of your trip beyond just playing rounds, consider building a session or two at a golf academy into your itinerary. A morning lesson, a short game clinic, or a full academy programme can transform the rest of your holiday rounds — and gives the trip a different dimension beyond just scoring.
Beyond the Fairways: East Mallorca and Canyamel
Here’s where it gets really good. The area around Canyamel and the east coast of Mallorca is genuinely one of the most beautiful corners of the island — and most visiting golfers barely scratch the surface of what’s here. One round per day, well timed, leaves the rest of the day free to explore. And in east Mallorca, that’s very easy to fill.
- Playa de Canyamel — A stunning 300-metre stretch of golden sand tucked into a natural bay, flanked by cliffs and pine-covered hills. It rarely gets overcrowded even in peak season, the water is clear and calm, and the atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly. Perfect for a post-round afternoon.
- Cala Agulla & Cala Mesquida — Two of the most beautiful coves on the entire island, just a short drive north. Protected by dunes and surrounded by pine trees, these beaches feel completely natural and unspoiled. A must-visit.
- Cuevas de Artà — Just minutes from the course, these spectacular caves sit dramatically at the top of a cliff overlooking the bay. The stalagmites reach over 20 metres high and the guided tour includes a light and music show. An incredible experience, especially for families.
- Castle of Capdepera — The historic hilltop fortress of the nearby town of Capdepera is worth an evening visit. The views across the east coast from the battlements are extraordinary, and the town itself has excellent restaurants for dinner.
Cala Ratjada — A short drive away and perfect for a livelier evening — a bustling port town with waterfront restaurants, a lighthouse walk, and a great selection of bars and dining.
East Mallorca moves at its own pace. It’s quieter than the south and west, more authentic, and genuinely breathtaking. As a base for a golf holiday, it’s hard to beat — you’re never more than 15 minutes from either a great round or a perfect beach.
